Pre- service teachers

Home Economics is offered in 2 Bachelor of Education courses.

  • as a major area of study in the undergraduate Middle Schooling course
    and
  • as a major or minor in the Bachelor of Arts and Education (Secondary) course

In the Middle School program students will complete 4 electives plus Middle School Curriculum Methodology Home Economics and at least 2 practicums with a focus in the subject area.

In the BA/Bed program:
As a minor students will complete 4 electives plus Middle School Curriculum Methodology Home Economics and practicums with a focus in the subject area.

As a major students will complete 6 electives plus Middle and Senior School Curriculum Methodology Home Economics and practicums with a focus in the subject area.

In-service teachers

For current, registered teachers seeking to:

  • re-train in a new subject area or
  • up-date skills

Home Economics is offered in intensive mode in 2 subjects. The subjects cover the two main focus areas of Home Economics and completion of all requirements in either subject would gain an award at Graduate Certificate level as of 2009 (subject to accreditation).

The subjects are:

  • Home Economics (Food, People and Technology)
  • Home Economics (Clothing, Textiles and Technology)

If a student completes all requirements for both subjects they can be awarded a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Home Economics) upon surrendering their graduate certificates.
