The Tabor Adelaide baptist study centre

The Tabor Adelaide baptist study centre has been conceived of as a place where those exploring current church practice in light of Scripture and the evangelical, free church tradition (what is often called the small ‘b’ baptist tradition) can find like-minded colleagues to encourage them to think deeper in a supportive - yet challenging - environment.

It is intended to serve as a resource for local churches through its support of their pastors and church leaders.

  1. Why a study centre?
The Scriptures and church tradition are rich sources from which God forms his church. Yet too often the busyness of ministry means that pastors and church leaders draw only upon experience, theirs or others, and what seems “practical” when leading their churches. This study centre will be a place where practitioners and scholars can take time to listen, reflect, and discuss important, practical issues, seeking to find a more faithful and effective way of being God’s people.
  2. Why baptist (with a small ‘b’)?
For many people the term baptist makes them think of a particular denomination. However, before there was a denomination there was an ecclesiology - evangelical and free church - from which a number of kindred denominations grew,
including Baptists, Churches of Christ, Mennonites, and many independent Pentecostal churches. This ecclesiology is often called small ‘b’ baptist (to distinguish it from the denomination Baptist).
  3. Why Tabor Adelaide?
Tabor Adelaide is a multi-denominational, tertiary college serving the Evangelical churches of Adelaide. It encourages people to contribute their distinctives into the conversation in order that each person might be enriched. Tabor Adelaide takes seriously its commitment to contribute to the growth and development of church leaders in South Australia.
