I’m delighted to announce the accreditation of a new doctoral degree at Tabor Adelaide, the Doctor of Theology (ThD). The ThD is a research-based award that recognises the diversity of research and research training needs, contexts and outcomes in contemporary theology. In particular, there is a growing awareness, firstly, that theology is a practical discipline with important significance for the church, and, secondly, that theology cannot be isolated from culturally-conditioned human experience.

These insights have been taken into consideration in our new ThD course. Accordingly, four disciplinary specialisations are on offer: biblical studies, systematic and historical theology and the two additional specialisations of practical theology and contextual theology.

We are excited about the opportunity this course presents for the development of in-depth knowledge, understanding and skills which are relevant for personal Christian living and for a variety of vocations, for example. the ordained ministry, theological teaching, Christian writing, academic scholarship and similar vocations.

Tabor Adelaide has been developing its postgraduate course program in Ministry and Theology for a number of years, and we are delighted that we can offer you an array of courses, ranging from Graduate Certificate courses to doctoral level. All postgraduate courses are available through External Studies, if that is your preferred option, and are fully accredited. Domestic students are able to access the government’s FEE-HELP loans system in order to avoid immediate up-front payments.

If you are an overseas student, course fees are higher than domestic student fees. However, the supportive study environment and the relatively low cost-of-living in Adelaide are strong reasons to encourage those who are overseas/international students to consider Tabor Adelaide as the place to undertake postgraduate study.
Studying with us at Tabor Adelaide can be a transforming experience.

We offer you opportunities to develop your research and writing capabilities in areas that interest you within the disciplines of Christian ministry and theology. However, we do not major solely on academic performance. Our courses are taught within an atmosphere of spiritual vitality. We want you to grow and develop as a Christian thinker, practitioner or minister … so we invite you to join us in our newly emerging Tabor Adelaide Ministry and Theology Postgraduate Fellowship as you commence your studies with us.

Please check out Tabor Online if you would like to listen to addresses given at TAMTPF meetings at different times.

I hope you enjoy looking through these pages, and exploring the Tabor Adelaide site more widely.

Yours warmly in Christ,
Rev Dr Graham Buxton

He is the author of Dancing in the Dark: The Privilege of Participating in the Ministry of Christ (Carlisle UK: Paternoster, 2001), and The Trinity, Creation and Pastoral Ministry (Milton Keynes UK: Paternoster, 2005). Graham’s latest book, Celebrating Life: Beyond the Sacred-Secular Divide, which was published in mid-2007, reflects his passion to encourage people to enjoy the gift of life by receiving with thanksgiving all that is good in God’s world.
